3D DENSE ARRAY: STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING PROJECT
- Location: Ohrid Lake, Macedonia
- Structure type: Building and multiple soil profiles surrounding lake
- Purpose: Previously instrumented area with multiple accelerographs and seismoscopes that needed a structural health monitoring system to network the system and provide real-time, remote data for easy accessibility and management.
- Channel Count: Multi-channel system
- Sensor type(s): Accelographs and seismoscopes
- Overview: The Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology, IZIIS, was founded after the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Skopje, Macedonia in 1963. The old data recording system installed at Ohrid Lake consisted of several accelographs and seismoscopes installed on the building, bed rock and soil. Up until 2010, in order to analyze sensor data it had to collected individually from each sensor on a magnetic tape, downloaded and then analyzed; a time consuming process. The communication between the 3D Dense Array and the Institute needed some improvement. To improve access to information, Digitexx installed a PDAQ Premium that was able to bypass the existing units making it possible to record and collect all the sensor data remotely in real-time. Since its installation in the summer of 2010, the PDAQ Premium has run continuously providing valuable research data for soil structure interaction. A live demonstration of the 3D Dense Array was shown at the 14th European Conference on Earthquake Engineering, 14ECEE, held at Ohrid Lake.
